Project Overview

Welcome to our website!

Here we share our experience of incorporating e-assessment into Mathematics and statistics modules at Cork Institute of Technology and University College Cork. You will find helpful advice and resources on including e-assessment in your courses if you are a lecturer or, indeed, resources to help you improve your mathematical skills if you are a student.

The first major step is to choose a suitable platform. We use Numbas, a free resource created and maintained by a team at the University of Newcastle. Depending on your level, you will find links to questions that give you a feel for what’s available, some off-the-shelf question banks and exams (as SCORM packages) that can be copied to Blackboard or Moodle and are particularly suited to students in third level institutions in Ireland. If you are feeling more adventurous, there’s an implementation guide that steers you through the steps needed to incorporate e-assessment in your own modules as well as a catalogue of resources that you are more than welcome to use. And all this in addition to the extensive material available on the Numbas site itself! Any questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us!

This website is part of a project funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education under its Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund 2014 call. The main aims of this project are to improve students’ engagement with Mathematics, improve student outcomes, and reduce lecturer workload especially in large first year courses.
